What’s the Deal with Having Sex on Your Period?
There’s some mystery (and messiness) around the idea of having sex on your period, but the truth is it’s perfectly safe.
Yes, of course it can be messy, but there are ways to lessen the mess:
- Try putting a towel down over your sheets.
- Try having sex in the shower.
- If you bleed a little more after the deed is done, do not be concerned, it is normal. Have baby wipes or adult wet wipes handy afterwards, or hop in the shower.
It may be the best sex you’ve ever had. Have you noticed during your period, you feel more aroused? Hormones are at their peak and women who have sex on their period, tend to enjoy it more, and with the flow, it can act as extra lubrication. Also, it may relieve cramps.
If you’d rather not have sex, you can wear a tampon and your partner can focus on clitoral stimulation. Again, it may not take long for you to orgasm because the body is so aroused at the time of the period.
And lastly (but not least) the answer is yes, you can still get pregnant if you have sex during your period. Some women can ovulate soon after a period, and sperm can live up to 5 days. Also, a chance for an STD is also higher because the cervix is open more than it is at any other time of the month.
So use protection.
